MY STORY

Hello, I’m Valenca and I am an MSW, Grief Counselor, Death Doula, Life-Cycle Celebrant, and End-of-Life Educator serving Portland, OR and beyond. I provide holistic support for people and their families at the end of life. With over a decade and a half working in the bereavement field, I hold the tender space of grief & loss with a nurturing guidance. As a Certified End-of-Life Doula, I offer practical support and comfort for you and your loved ones before, during, and after a death. As a Certified Life-Cycle Celebrant, I help families honor their loved ones and their loss by creating ceremonies and rituals. I have been a caregiver to dying loved ones and have experienced deep losses since childhood. It is now my life’s work to hold others through this threshold.

I am flexible. I meet you where you are, and will facilitate any of your family’s end-of-life needs, desires, and experiences.

 

What is an end-of-life Doula?

As a Death Doula, I provide the practical, emotional, spiritual, and all other non-medical support needed at the end of life. During the final weeks and months, I can help to prepare the family for the end of life process. During the sacred hours of dying, I am there to hold the family through the threshold. And, after a death, I can provide bereavement support and help with wrapping up affairs. I am certified through the Going with Grace End-of-Life Training Program.

What is a life-cycle celebrant?

As a certified Life-Cycle Celebrant, I help to co-create rituals and ceremonies for the end of life. Whether it is a large funeral or celebration of life or if it is an intimate ceremony, I help families to honor their loved ones and the loss they feel in their hearts. I am certified through the Celebrant Foundation & Institute.

  • Grief Counseling

    No matter what transition you are experiencing, Raven & Rose provides a safe space to explore your grief. A place to be witnessed and held. A space that honors your grief and whatever state it is in.

  • HOLISTIC FAMILY SUPPORT

    As a Death Doula, I will provide holistic support by paying attention to each family member’s emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual needs and holding them through this tender time.

  • Bedside Vigil

    During Raven & Rose Bedside Vigil services, I help to create a peaceful and sacred space for the last moments of the dying loved one’s life and for the experience of the family.

  • Rememberance

    Through Raven & Rose Remembrance services, we co-create projects that will help to capture your loved one’s story, so that it may be treasured long after they are gone.

  • Planning Ahead

    Whether you are at the end of life, or you are still young and vibrant, you may want your affairs in order before you die. Raven & Rose services can help.

  • Sudden Death Support

    Sometimes a death can not be planned for. Sometimes it happens out of no where and shocks a family’s nervous system. A sudden death can profoundly effect family, friends, and a whole community at large. I can support you during this time.

  • Ceremony

    Through Raven & Rose Celebrant Services, I work with you to co-create a special ceremony that will honor your loved one and tend to your grief.
